TEMPLE HISTORY OF VILLAGE GODDESS SRI SRI SRI MAREMMA THALLI (DEVI)
Sri Sri Sri Goddess Maremma Thalli(Devi) temple is situated in Chengareddypalli Village, Karakambadi post in Renigunta mandal of Chittoor district in A.P. It is about 1 ½ KM towards kadapa road from Renigunta located in Eastern side and the temple is situated south west to the village. There is neem tree since the formation of this village and adjacent to it there is a cobra in an ant hill. Congregation (Jatara) is performed in April and May months of every year. At that time the idol was prepared with neem wood and installed in a thatched shelter covered with neem leaves. Then the villagers offer pongali as naivedyam and arranged kumbham worship to the Goddess by offering Coconut, Bali, Harathi with utmost devotion. During this, Ammavaru comes over on devotees to tell the future. People attacked by evil sprits cannot withstand before Ammavaru and they used to dance accordingly to the tunes of musical instruments. The childless and sick persons after circumbulation of the temple will be blessed with children and health.
People of the surrounding villages also offer pongali and worship the Goddess after the fulfillment of their desires.
At the age of 24 I decided to construct the four walls in that place to lit the lamp in the temple (Deeparadhana). I belong to an ordinary family. One day in 1972 I alone started digging the earth to lay the foundation stone at 10.30 am and completed it by evening in an area of 8X8 sq.ft land with bricks and sand etc, while digging I found 2 tortoises in 3 feet depth, immediately I kept them in the near by well. Whenever I got leisure I used to construct the walls. I used to come back once in 2 days after completion of my regular duty at Tirumala. Sri Aarisetti Krishnaiah a son-in-law of our village one day informed me that the slabbed
temple could be constructed with 10 cement bags, 150 kgs of iron, one load of concrete chips and the idols of lions in the four corners of the temple. Apart from that, Goddess ordered me in the dream to construct a temple with an aim to install the idols of Goddess in 1976. I offered pujas in Sri Maremma Thalli(Devi) temple at Samayapuram near Tiruchirapalli. Soon after I approached a sculpture residing of Palur(Chittoor district) which is the native place of my mother-in-law to make the idols of Goddess and pothuraju. I brought 1¾ ft. Ammavari idol and 1¼ ft. of Pothuraju idol from there and kept them in the nearby well of our temple. If any woman comes to take water from the well in prohibited times, the Goddess used to show her powers. The consecration of the idols and kumbhabhishekam were performed in the year 1977 from February 10th to 14th with Sriman Chandrasekhara Gurukul the Vedapandit of TTD Vedapatasala. Deeparadhana is being performed in the temple everyday by Archakas with the grace and inspiration of Goddess the temple was renovated on 31.7.2009 at about 5.45 AM. After that I completed the work of the compound wall (96 ft. length and 57 ft. width) by accepting donations and constructed a kitchen, room for Archakas, accommodation to devotees and an office room with the donations offered by four generous donors. The Sanctum, Mukhamandapam, Vimanagopuram were completed with magnificent sculptures.
The plinth area of the temple is 12 cents within the total area of 45 cents of land. 8 cents of land is kept for the construction of kalyana mandapam which benefits the poor people to perform marriages etc. A Spacious garden will be constructed in 25 cents of land in future. To complete the pending construction, Electric works, Painting works etc. the funds are insufficient. Hence, I appeal to the donors to co-operate me to complete the works and Kumbhabhishekam.
